Ep 93: Building a Business With Intuition, Not Hustle with Lisa Avila
What if your best business strategy isn’t another funnel, offer, or hack—but your gut?
In this episode of Mompreneur Mastery, I sat down with Lisa Avila, business strategist for Tenacious Moms, to talk about a topic we don’t hear enough in the business world: intuition.
Lisa helps moms build businesses that align with their lives—not in spite of them. She’s a mom of three teens, a seasoned entrepreneur, and a firm believer that intuition + strategy > hustle. And in this convo? She showed us exactly how to start leaning into that.
Whether you're stuck in analysis paralysis, juggling a million ideas, or feeling that "go-go-go" pressure that never quite stops... this one's for you.
Why Mompreneurs Need a Different Strategy
Here’s the thing most traditional business advice misses: we’re moms.
We’ve got kids to care for, unpredictable schedules, snack negotiations every 6.2 minutes, and limited uninterrupted hours. So when someone tells us to just “post more” or “launch faster”... it doesn’t always land.
Lisa gets that. She’s been there—and she’s built a business that supports her life, not one that drains her. Her take? You don’t need to hustle harder. You need to trust yourself more.
How Intuition Shows Up in Business
Lisa describes intuition as a quiet nudge—a gut feeling that tells you whether something is right or wrong. And as moms? We’re already trained in this.
You know when the room is too quiet and the kids are definitely up to something? That’s intuition.
You know when something feels off in a client relationship, even before anything goes wrong? That’s intuition too.
Lisa shared how tuning into that same inner knowing can help you:
Decide which offers to pursue (and which to shelve for later)
Say no to things that look good on paper but feel heavy in your body
Make aligned decisions based on your season, not outside pressure
Harmony Over Hustle
One of my favorite parts of this conversation was Lisa’s take on harmony vs. balance.
She said: “It’s not about balance. It’s about harmony.”
Because let’s be honest—balance assumes everything is equal. But mom life isn’t equal. Kids get sick. Routines shift. Nap schedules disappear. The school calls again.
Trying to “balance” business and motherhood like two equal weights often leads to feeling like you’re failing at both. But when you aim for harmony instead, you give yourself space to adjust. Space to lead with intuition. Space to breathe.
What If You’re Not Sure It’s “Intuition”?
Here’s where it gets really practical.
Lisa’s advice if you’re not sure whether your gut feeling is real or just anxiety?
Sit in it. Even for 2 minutes. Does it feel light or heavy?
Ask yourself: Is this a no for now or a no forever?
Look for signs (Lisa talks about angel numbers, feelings in the body, and other cues)
She also blends intuition with actual strategy—polling her audience, testing ideas, and focusing on human-centered design to make sure what she creates will actually serve.
So no, it’s not just "trust your gut and wing it."
It’s intuition + intention = sustainable business success.
The Business Strategy You’re Already Using (You Just Don’t Know It)
Lisa pointed out something powerful: you’re already using intuition.
Every time you choose to delay a launch because your kid needs you…
Every time you tweak your schedule to avoid burnout…
Every time you get a weird vibe on a Zoom call and decide not to move forward…
That’s your intuition at work.
You don’t need to develop it. You just need to trust it.
💡 Final Takeaway
You don’t need a 47-step strategy right now.
You don’t need to be everywhere, doing everything.
You don’t need a business that looks perfect on Instagram.
You need one that feels right—in your body, in your season, in your real life.
Lisa reminded me (and hopefully you too) that building a business with intuition doesn’t mean ditching strategy. It means using the strategy that’s rooted in you.
